Privacy Policy
Last updated September 23, 2026
- There is no account. TerpWise has nothing to sign in to.
- Your journal, sessions, stash and notes are stored on your iPhone. We do not run a server that receives them.
- No analytics, advertising, tracking or crash-reporting services are built into the app.
- We do not sell or share your data. We never receive it in the first place.
What stays on your iPhone
Everything you record: sessions, journal entries, reflections, your stash, notes and settings. It is stored in the app's own storage on your device, protected by iOS Data Protection.
- Photos you scan (product labels, lab reports) are read on the phone with Apple's Vision framework. The images are not uploaded.
- Voice notes are transcribed on the phone. The recording is not sent to Apple or to us.
- Written summaries and label reading use Apple's on-device language model where your iPhone supports it. Nothing you write is sent to a cloud AI service.
Apple Health
Connecting Apple Health is optional. If you connect it, TerpWise can read heart rate, resting and walking heart rate, heart rate variability, high, low and irregular heart rhythm notifications, blood pressure, blood oxygen, respiratory rate, sleep, activity (energy burned, steps, distance, exercise minutes, workouts), water, caffeine, dietary energy and carbohydrates, body temperature, weight, headache symptoms and mindful minutes. You choose which of these to allow in Apple's permission screen, and you can change that at any time in the Health app.
TerpWise writes two things to Apple Health: mindful minutes for sessions you log, and, on iOS 18 or later, the state of mind you record in a reflection.
Health information stays on your iPhone. It is never sent to us, never used for advertising, and never included in TerpWise's iCloud backup. Insights look at no more than the last 30 days.
iCloud backup
TerpWise backs up your journal, stash and settings to your own iCloud account. This is on by default. The backup is stored by Apple in your private iCloud storage, and we have no access to it. Apple Health readings are left out of it.
You can turn the backup off, or delete it, in TerpWise under Settings › Backup.
When TerpWise uses the internet
The app works offline. It connects only in these cases:
- Strain details. When you add or look up a strain, TerpWise may fetch its description and lineage from public websites such as Leafly, AllBud, Wikipedia and SeedFinder. Those sites receive the strain name and, as with any web request, your IP address.
- Lab reports. When you scan a lab report's QR code or paste its link, TerpWise downloads that page from the lab's website.
- Purchases. Subscriptions and purchases are handled by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details.
None of these requests include your journal, sessions, notes or Health data. The websites involved have their own privacy policies.
On your home screen
- Search. Your stash items and journal notes are added to your iPhone's search index, on the device, so you can find them from the home screen. Health data is never indexed.
- Widgets. The stash widget shows strain type and leading terpenes only, with no amounts, doses or counts.
- Reminders. Notifications are scheduled on your iPhone. There is no push notification server.
- Sanctuary Mode. This puts the app behind Face ID or your passcode. Turning it on also removes TerpWise from search and clears its widgets, because those can be seen without unlocking the app.
Apple Watch
If you use the TerpWise Watch app, information passes directly between your iPhone and your Watch. It does not go through us.
Sharing and export
Data leaves your iPhone only when you choose to send it: through the share sheet, by exporting a file, or by writing an NFC tag. An NFC tag holds a link containing the item's ID, not its contents.
Age
TerpWise is for adults 21 and over and is not directed at anyone younger.
Deleting your data
In TerpWise, Settings › Data Management › Delete All Data removes everything the app stores on your iPhone, including its search entries, widget content and scheduled reminders. Your iCloud backup is kept until you delete it in Settings › Backup. Deleting the app also removes its data from your iPhone.
Because we hold no personal information about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete on our side. You have full control on your device.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be described in the app.
